Our Philosophy

Welcome to Laughing Fox Boneworks.
Our mission is simple: to breathe a second life into what the dead leave behind.

We’re veteran- and woman-owned and operated, though somewhere along the way it grew into a full-on family affair. My husband, our sons, and I all have a hand in the work, and every piece that leaves our shop carries that care with it.

My name is Kate. I began doing my own European mounts in 2019, then for friends and family—until one day I swapped my paintbrush for a fox skull instead of a canvas. That moment snowballed into… well, this. Before I knew it, I was taking commissions, building a social media presence, earning my taxidermy license, and forming an LLC. I later married my husband, Chris, who enthusiastically joined in on the fun and hasn’t looked back since.

We’ve always been deeply drawn to nature and our connection to the Earth. We’re born from it, and one day we return to it—completing the cycle. To us, that isn’t something grim. It’s something to be honored.

Because to me, these aren’t just bones.

When you hold a skull in your hands—no matter what it belonged to—you’re holding what once housed an entire living being. You’re touching the physical remains of a consciousness shaped by evolution to survive, adapt, and persist for an unfathomable amount of time. In many cases, it’s the first time those remains have ever known the care of a human touch. I treat them with the respect that deserves.

It’s an honor to use the skills I’ve developed to preserve and decorate these remains—to transform them into something beautiful and place them in a home where they’re wanted, loved, and appreciated the way all life should be.

European mounts, in particular, hold special meaning for us. They are not trophies. They are symbols—of memorable hunts, irreplaceable moments, and food provided for a family. Stories preserved for a lifetime.

As avid hunters, we’re keenly aware of where we fall on the food chain. We believe in balancing ethics with necessity, respecting both the act of hunting and the instinct that connects us to our origins. Those same principles guide every piece we work with.

Everything you see here was either hunted for food or already deceased when we encountered it.

This belief extends to you, dear reader, along with our guarantee: every specimen we work with is 100% ethically sourced. No animals were harmed for profit or artistic pursuit.

If you made it this far, thank you for stopping by—it means more than you know.

Stay spooky,
Laughing Fox
